Well, my work here is done. I’ve read and reviewed every single #1 issue in DC’s New 52 relaunch. It took me a lot longer than I anticipated, and it was much more difficult than I thought it would be, but here we are.
Overall, I think this relaunch went extremely well. I didn’t read a single book I would consider bad. Sure, some of them didn’t interest me, but I’m amazed by how much quality was on display here, even for books that few people are interested in. And apparently, the sales numbers reflect the quality on display.
The artwork was excellent overall, too. I especially liked the art in All-Star Western, Swamp Thing, and Batwoman. I didn’t care for the art in Animal Man (except in the “dream” sequences) but I wouldn’t call it bad. It’s probably just something I need to get used to.
Since writing all these reviews, I’ve been reading some of the #2 and #3 issues. I’ll start writing those reviews in a couple…oh wait, no I won’t. I’ll be getting back to writing about other topics for a while, so if you started following this blog because of these reviews, don’t be surprised when I go back to writing about politics and religion.
I’ve been very eager to read future books relating to Green Lantern and Batman. The Red Lanterns series has been really interesting. And the New 52 has gotten me interested in a lot of characters and teams I wasn’t interested in before, like Jonah Hex, Aquaman, Supergirl, and Deathstroke.
Following monthly:
Action, All-Star Western, Aquaman, Dark Knight, Batman, Batman & Robin, Batwing, Detective, Green Lantern, GL Corps, GL New Guardians, Justice League, JL Dark, JL International, Red Hood, Red Lanterns, Swamp Thing
Probably waiting for TPB:
Animal Man, Batwing, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Deadman, Deathstroke, Demon Knights, Hawk & Dove, Mr. Terrific, Nightwing, OMAC, Resurrection Man, Stormwatch, Suicide Squad, Superboy, Supergirl, Superman, Teen Titans, Flash, Wonder Woman
Probably not going to bother:
Batgirl, Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Blackhawks, Catwoman, Frankenstein, Green Arrow, Grifter, I Vampire, Men of War, Static Shock, Firestorm, Hawkman, Voodoo
